It's downright surprising to find a 4-star business hotel like the Alla Lenz tucked away in the back streets of Neubau, Vienna's nightlife district. But if you value quiet and cleanliness over a central location (read: It's a ten-minute walk to the shops of Mariahilferstrasse and 30 to 40 minutes to Innere Stadt), the Alla Lenz is not a bad choice.

Mid-sized rooms are tidily organized without much style. Furnishings are wooden, for the most part, and the color scheme a classic blue and white combo. The vibe is modern, from the cable televisions to the spic-and-span tile bathrooms with silver showerheads, though none of the rooms are especially impressive or bright. We found the rooms facing the courtyard to be especially gloomy. Singles, given the prevailing rate, are very small.

There are some nice perks if you're planning a summertime visit: 20 of the Pension's 25 rooms have A/C, a rarity in these parts. There's also a swank swimming pool and a breakfast room with a chic fireplace at its center.
