A few yards from the Neubaugasse U-Bahn station on a busy stretch of Mariahilferstrasse, the Hotel Pension Corvinus offers good value in an aesthetically simple key.
It's easy to miss the Corvinus, tucked away inside a residential building, amongst the bright lights of the Mariahilferstrasse shops. The property is owned and operated by a Hungarian family; thus, it is named after the King of Hungary.
The 12 rooms are hardly shabby (soundproofed windows keep the noise levels down), with minibars, air-conditioning, and satellite TV. Décor here is mostly chain-hotel classic. Dark green carpet, light balsa wood nightstands and desks, and red comforters are the norm. Some bathrooms have impressive checkerboard tile jobs. Deluxe suites are available.
Courteous owners and a fine selection of amenities, including free wireless and a cozy seating area with leather couches, add a little warmth to an otherwise somewhat impersonal hotel.

About the Hotel Pension Corvinus neighborhood
Mariahilferstrasse is the flashy commercial "main drag" of Vienna. Located southwest of the Innere Stadt, the street is jammed with window shoppers, restaurants, and cafes. Step off the beaten path and you'll find pleasant local spots—at least until you get to the four lane Gürtel, which provides an unpleasant border to the area. The Westbahnhof train station lies at the very southwestern edge of this district.
