The sweet family-owned Pension Arpi is located on a small street at the edge of the Josefstadt. While it's not the most central location—the Ring is about a 15-minute walk away, as are the Stephansdom and the rest of the Innere Stadt—Josefstadt is one of Vienna's most authentically Viennese neighborhoods, and makes a great base for visitors in search of non-tourist stimulation who similarly don't want to miss out on a good selection of shops and restaurants.
Though Kochgasse is hardly busy, many of the rooms face the courtyard, blocking noise from outside and insuring an additional degree of quiet. A fresh build from 2000, the Arpi's rooms have a clean, modern look without much extraneous detailing. With blonde wood throughout and hardwood floors predominating the interiors, rooms are also equipped with satellite television, a large mirrored armoire and a far fancier bathroom that the norm. We liked the pink marble in particular.
In sum, the 20-room Arpi provides excellent value for its nightly rate in a friendly, well-kept environment, even if it's short on extras like Internet access. |
