With a prime location—Mozart once took up residence in the building—the Nossek is an august pension operated by the Bernard family. It's existed as a hotel since 1909, and provides an authentic Viennese experience. Directly on the pedestrian thoroughfare/luxury clearinghouse of the Graben, with the Stephansplatz in sight, there is no shortage of shopping options here.
All that history doesn't come cheap, though. You won't find pension rates here, though rooms are plain and unpretentious. Suites face the Graben, with the smaller of the 32 rooms facing the courtyard. Rooms are tasteful but without much in the way of a theme. Wooden desks, floral bedspreads, and yellow floor tiles in the bathroom impart a vague feeling of Central Europe; we really liked the parquet floors and double-height ceilings as well.
Some rooms have bathtubs but most have showers, which are clean but we found them a bit dark. Note that the Nossek is old-fashioned enough to be a cash only establishment, so it's no surprise that Internet access is limited to a terminal in the lobby (€2 for 15 minutes) and only a few of the rooms have televisions. |
