Located smack in the middle of Zurich’s happenin’ West quarter, the Ibis Zurich City West offers clean accommodations at good rates (for Zurich). This two-star outlet of the reliable European hotel chain still sparkles, thanks to a thorough December 2010 renovation.
The 155 rooms at the Ibis Zurich City West are smallish but immaculate, with parquet floors and plush beds. The earthy brown, beige and persimmon tones are calming, and all rooms are outfitted with air conditioning, soundproof windows, a safe, phone and flat-screen TV.
The private bathrooms are small but extremely clean, with tiled walls and new showers.
While somewhat kitschy (we’re looking at you, smiling cow logo) the hotel’s restaurant serves Swiss cuisine for as low as CHF19—not a bad deal in this pricey city. There is also a 24-hour bar, great for a nightcap (or a primer for a big night at the many nearby clubs).
The staff at the Ibis Zurich City West is helmed by a dynamic young manager. (He informed us that he’s new to the Ibis, direct from a four-star Sofitel, so expect more upscale touches in the future.)
Wi-Fi, an Internet station and parking are all available for additional fees.

About the Ibis Zurich City West neighborhood
Once simply referred to as “Industry Quarter,” this western district (Kreis 5) has been engulfed by the ever-expanding Zurich city proper. Located just west of Langstrasse and the train station, the vibrant (and still changing) Zurich West is home to trendy boutiques, unique art galleries and a slew of in-demand eateries (plus the occasional prostitute).
