Cheap hotels near Fraumünster in Zurich, Switzerland
Dating to 853 when Louis the German founded a Benedictine convent here for his daughter, Hildegard, the Fraumünster (meaning “Our Lady Minster” and sometimes called the "Church of Our Lady") today is considered one of Zurich’s most sacred and visited city sights.
While the current building only dates from 1250 (still nothing to sneeze at!), it’s a mighty impressive abbey with a gorgeous façade. The church is quite well known for its interior, where five stained glass windows designed by the artist Marc Chagall were installed in 1970 are on display.
Be sure to check out the organ, as well. Concerts are often on the daily docket here.
Today “Frau” is a Reformed Evangelical church. Head on in and take in a service for free on Sunday. Check the Fraumunster site for details.
From here, it’s easy to get to the Bahnhofstrasse or the Paradeplatz by foot.
