Zurich’s most renowned art museum, the Kunsthaus, is a seemingly never-ending exhibition space that offers a magnificent collection of art. It is one of the most famous and well-respected museums in Switzerland.
While the Kunsthaus’ specialty is modern and contemporary art, the museum does boast a wide-ranging collection that includes some Renaissance masterpieces, as well.
The museum was built in 1910 and is conveniently situated in Hottingen, just minutes from the Aldstadt (Old Center) neighborhood. Exhibits range from Renaissance Impressionism (Brueghel, Munch and Goya) to Expressionist works. Plenty of “Old Masters” are always on display (including Turner, Rousseau and Manet).
The museum is open from Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed Mondays). There’s also an onsite library, open Monday through Friday. Check the Kunsthaus’ Web site for more details.
