Cheap hotels near Lindenhof in Zurich, Switzerland

Named for the Linden trees that give it shade, the Lindenhof is an urban oasis in the middle of central Zurich. It was once the site of a Roman fort and castle. Later, Louis the German (he’s Charlemagne’s grandson and the force behind the nearby Fraumünster) built a residence here.

Since then, the area (and its surrounding cobblestone streets) has served as a meeting point for visitors and locals, as well as a gathering spot before city festivals and parades.

Wander around the park and then pause to take in the city views from one of the square’s benches. Be sure to check out all of those lovely city roofs. Or throw a Swiss franc into one of the on-site fountains.

The Lindenhof is an entirely pedestrian zone, free of cars and rich with greenery. And, if you’re a chess player, you can sit down to a game here almost anytime of day. Just step up to one of the large-scale chess boards.

Cheap hotels near Lindenhof: Hotels immediately surrounding the Lindenhof tend to be quite expensive (and Cheapo-unfriendly). Most of the picks you'll see below are located directly across the river in the Altstadt (Old Town) neighborhood (which still is pretty pricey, but there are a couple of budget hotel options).

You’ll find more options a bit north toward Zurich's Train Station. Any of these areas offer great proximity to city sights, restaurants and nightlife.
