Cheap hotels near Paradeplatz in Zurich, Switzerland

Sometimes called the “heartland of banking,” the Paradeplatz (“Parade Square”) is a square located along the upscale Bahnhofstrasse thoroughfare. The “platz” is within easy walking distance of the Fraumünster and a host of other sights. Several tram lines stop here making it a great meeting point.

In the 17th-century, Paradeplatz was a market square serving pig farmers who brought their swine out to be sold here. Back in the day too, horse-drawn trams (precursors to the trams you see buzzing around town today) circled through here. Today you’ll find two of the world’s major banks headquartered here. Credit Suisse sits on the north side of the square while UBS is at its western edge.

Also worth checking out? The nearby Savoy Hotel, and the famous Sprungli chocolate shop and cafe has its flagship on the Bahnhofstrasse.

Fun fact: To mark the beginning of spring, the Burning Snowman Festival (Sechseläuten) takes place in the Paradeplatz each April. The fest culminates in Bellevue Square with the spectacle of an exploding (burning) snowman!
