The Rathaus, Zurich’s City Hall, served as the seat of government for the Republic of Zurich until 1798. Today, the building is still used for official business and houses the city’s municipal parliaments.
The Renaissance-style building that sits here today dates to the 17th-century. It faces the Limmat River and appears to jut out as it sits directly on the water.
The Rathaus is located quite near the city’s guild houses that reside on the Limmatquai. Another bonus? The bridge named after it (the Rathausbrucke) is steps away and is a popular pedestrian crossing point to the other side of the river and into the Lindenhof neighborhood.
