The four-star Hotel Mayfair, located just a few blocks from Central Station, provides a swankier alternative the standard fare on Helgolandsgade, Copenhagen's unofficial "hotel row." While other hotels in this area get by on budget rates and prime location alone, this gem sings out its virtues in the form of eclectic décor and friendly hospitality.

The reception area is a work of art unto itself: the decorator responsible for the colorful blend of striped chairs, pink pillows, boho rugs, and even bright pink walls wins our respect for making so many different elements work so well together.

The 106 rooms have a similarly self-confident aesthetic. Décor in rooms follow a minimalist aesthetic. Rooms have soundproofed windows and sparkling clean bathrooms with spiffy gray tiling. Bathtubs are available in the suite rooms.

The Hotel Mayfair stands out for its included breakfast and dinner buffets. The evening meal is an international mix of tapas and Danish-Asian fusion.

Central Station & Tivoli

The Central Station area is the first place most folks—business visitors and tourists alike—go to find a hotel. Trains to and from the airport can be caught at the Central Station or Hovedbanegarden. Additionally, the area is home to many of Copenhagen's main attractions.

Famed Tivoli, the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum, Radhusplasden (aka Town Hall Square) and the Stroget shopping streets are all clustered near the station. Though the area is quite safe, it can seem dodgy at night, when it morphs into Copenhagen's Red Light District.
