Sultanahmet (also meaning Hippodrome in Turkish) is the old historic area of Istanbul surrounding the Blue Mosque. Its central location sits west of the Bosphorus, north of the Marmara Sea, and south of Divan Yolu Caddesi.
Hagia Sofia is within easy walking distance from Sultanahmet. From the Blue Mosque, Topkapi palace is roughly a 15-minute walk while the Grand Bazaar is about 30 minutes away on foot.
