If you're not opposed to shelling out a few extra euros, then check into the three-star Hotel Regente. It's worth it! Situated on a quiet side street just off the Gran Via, this 153-room hotel has fresh rooms with attractive furnishings and modern style.

All rooms are air-conditioned, the bathrooms are spotless, and wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel. Each floor hosts a hip little hangout area, furnished with stylish lamps, tables, and cozy couches. (One is designated as non-smoking, so request ahead of time.) The continental breakfast, which costs an extra fee, is served in the dining room.

It's a truly grand boulevard populated by cinemas, shopping, theaters and impressive art-nouveau buildings.
