The Creatif Hotel Elephant is a big old beast of a hotel, a bright orange place with colorful touches located about a block north of the station. Depending on the rate, the hotel could make a practical and budget-friendly home base.

The Elephant’s 44 rooms are pretty simple and straightforward, with hardwood floors and walls painted with pops of color. All are furnished with wooden “Bavarian-style” pieces, and have a TV and telephone. Bathrooms are equipped with showers and a hairdryer.

Downstairs, the breakfast room is spacious, colorful and full of light. A big breakfast buffet is offered for an additional fee.

The location, five minutes by foot north of the train station, lacks excitement, but it’s unquestionably convenient for those using the station (and Ubahn and Sbahn), and it avoids the sketchy scene that lies “south of the station”.

North of the Train Station

A mostly nondescript, modern neighborhood running several blocks north of the Hauptbahnhof, the main train station, this area features a number of hotels we quite like, but little in the way of traditional tourist draws. Dachauer Strasse features some interesting retail variety, a handful of bars and cafés, and the odd building of architectural interest. This 'hood is best utilized for sleeping, not hanging.
