The Astor Museum Hostel is a 100-bed hostel located directly across the street from the British Museum and near the tranquil Russell Square and Bloomsbury Square Gardens. Despite its privileged location, the Astor Museum Hostel complies with typical hostel stereotypes: It’s cheap, basic and filled with international students.

Rooms at the Astor Museum Hostel come in a variety of sizes, from private twins to 12-bed dorms. All varieties are pretty tight, with red metal bunks beds and a sink. Navy blue curtains hang over the windows. It's a simple scene, but it does the trick at this price.

For any extras, you'll pay a fee. Lockers cost £2 per day, and each towel costs £3.50. Bring your own padlock, or you'll have to purchase one from the hostel for £7.50. There are also fees for luggage storage, printing, and adaptors.

Also, some rooms (mostly the privates) are located in a separate building (the recently refurbished "annex").

All bathrooms at the Astor Museum Hostel are shared, gender-neutral and clean.

The Astor Museum Hostel has a laid-back, youthful vibe and proves a solid option for lone travelers looking to meet new people. Guests congregate in the TV lounge and on the back deck, and the hostel also offers a well-equipped kitchen.

Breakfast costs £3.50. Wi-Fi is available throughout for free, and there’s a free Internet station in the TV lounge.

Note: The Astor Museum Hostel runs a strict age policy, and is only open to guests between the ages of 18 and 40.

Situated north of Piccadilly Circus and the West End, leafy Bloomsbury is famous as the former headquarters of the bohemian writing clique known as the Bloomsbury Group. The charming neighborhood is centered around Russell Square and boasts the British Museum, University of London, and Georgian townhouse-lined streets.

Budget-friendly B&Bs line Gower Street, just west of the University, easily accessible to the rest of the central city. This is London at its most charming and, arguably, most literary.
