Cheap hotels near Place du Tertre in Paris, France

Stroll through the Place du Tertre on a sunny day and you’ll see scores of artists at work on their easels and canvasses, making everything from caricatures to watercolors to spray paint art. It’s a reminder of both Montmartre’s past as a creative hotbed and its present as a sometimes kitschy village aiming to please tourists. You may not find Picasso or Dali hanging around here anymore, but you’ll certainly be able to snag some fancy postcards for your friends back home.

Lined with cafes and covered by a leafy canopy in summer, it’s not hard to see why so many find the Place du Tertre romantic, even with its tourist-centric feel. Luckily, many nearby spots in Montmartre offer a more authentic version of the square’s charm. With its proximity to food, shopping and all the sights of Montmartre, the Place du Tertre makes for a convenient base from which to explore the village.

If your aim is to see the rest of Paris, though, this neighborhood might not be the best pick. It’s far from the main sights at the center of town, and with Montmartre’s hills and winding streets, you’ll have to do a lot of walking, even just to get to the Metro (line 12, at “Abbesses”).

Cheap hotels near Place du Tertre: While finding an affordable hotel right on the square won’t be easy, the Place du Tertre is a short walk from most of Montmartre, which offers a number of cheap sleeps. The Hotel Audran, on the rue des Abbesses, is a favorite, offering renovated rooms at Cheapo rates.
