Standing tall in Midtown Manhattan just down the street from New York’s Grand Central Terminal, the Chrysler Building is an Art Deco architectural marvel. It’s situated at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue.
Erected between 1928-1930, the office building served as the headquarters for the Chrysler Corporation from 1930 through the mid-1950s. It’s marked by impressive crown ornamentation on its spire as well a series of iconic eagle sculptures (poised on the 61st floor).
Less than a year after it opened, the Empire State Building opened for business and became the tallest building in the city. Yet, Chrysler does stand at a jaw-dropping 1,047 feet!
You can’t take a public tour of the building these days, but you can step into the lobby for free.
