Standing tall at 102 stories, the Empire State Building is perhaps New York City’s most iconic landmark. Taking up an entire city block at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue, the Empire State contains 85 stories of commercial and office space and two observation decks.
Designed by William Lamb, the building was constructed during the Great Depression, its ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening occurring in 1931.

At present, it is the tallest skyscraper in Manhattan. Once the Freedom Tower is complete, the Empire State Building will again be the city's second-tallest building.
