Cheap hotels near Meatpacking District in New York, United States
Located in Manhattan's West Side, the Meatpacking District takes its name from the nearly 250 slaughterhouses that were located here in the late-19th and 20th centuries. Only about 50 meat purveyors remain today (a number that is fast diminishing), and the neighborhood has become one of the trendiest in New York City.
Today the Meatpacking District is known for pricey, high-end designer boutiques, celeb-run restaurants and expensive nightclubs. During the day things are calm, and visitors stroll the High Line Park.
At nightfall limos block the streets and women in daring footwear take to the cobblestone streets. Some of the best-known hot spots include the restaurants Pastis, Spice Market and the Hotel Gansevoort. Stop by the hotel for a drink and to take your chance at seeing stars.
