Cheap hotels near San Clemente Basilica in Rome, Italy
Located within easy walking distance of Rome’s Colosseum and just off Piazza Venezia, the San Clemente Basilica is dedicated to Clemente, the third successor of St. Peter. (He was sentenced for heresy by the Emperor Trajan and forced to dig mines in Crimea.)
The Basilica draws crowds for its “Tree of Life” fresco and archaeological excavations.
Today, you can visit the Basilica Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m.-6 p.m., Sundays from noon-6 p.m. Mass is celebrated daily. Check the San Clemente site for more information.
