Cheap hotels near Trajan's Market in Rome, Italy
Located opposite Rome’s Colosseum, Trajan’s Market (Mercati di Traiano) is thought to be the world’s oldest shopping mall. Built in a typical arcade style, the buildings here were likely once a bustling marketplace and probably housed the Emperor Trajan’s administrative offices.
The market was constructed around 110 A.D. It’s an incredible sight to view up close, imagining what life must have been like during Trajan’s rule.
For a truly unique experience, visit the on-site museum, open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information and current exhibitions, visit the museum’s Web site.
