Sitting pretty at Monbijouplatz in the bulls-eye of Mitte, the Hotel Taunus offers surprise-free rooms that won't break the bank. But the helpful owner and central location make the hotel worth considering. The hotel is situated around a courtyard and parking lot, directly behind the central tram hub, which can be a busy and noisy scene.
Happily, rooms are equipped with soundproofed windows to cut down on the noise (which would only be a problem in the summer, when you'll want the windows to be open). Otherwise, the rooms are simple, with wooden beds, wardrobes, chairs, and blue carpets. Private baths are similarly direct, with white tiles, showers, and toilets. Certain rooms in the four-floor Taunus offer views of the Dom Cathedral and the TV tower at Alexanderplatz (ask ahead).
The Hotel Taunus faces Monbijoupark, in central Mitte, about a two-minute walk to Hackescher Markt.
