A low-cost wing of SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System), Blue1 flies to an impressive number of destinations in Finland and a smattering of other Nordic cities (Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Oslo and Stockholm) as well as Western and Central European destinations. Blue1 is the second biggest airline in Finland.

Blue1 is definitely #1 for travel to Finland's north. No other budget airline flies to destinations beyond Helsinki and Tampere.

Upside

Network stretches across Finland. Young, helpful and energetic flight crew. Newer aircraft in fleet. Great service.

Downside

Access to most destinations in Finland requires connecting flights and some destinations are seasonal.

Departure: Copenhagen, Denmark - Copenhagen Apt (CPH)

In Brief: Copenhagen Airport, first off, it a strikingly beautiful place, definitely worth a layover. It's clean, open, and full of shops and cafes. 8 km (5 miles) south of Copenhagen proper, it's the busiest airport in Scandinavia, though it handles few low-cost airlines. The one budget airline utilizing Copenhagen as a major base is Sterling. Transportation: The best and least expensive mode of transportation between the airport and the center city is via the city's metro link, which whisks passengers between the airport and the city's Central Station in just 12 minutes. The one-way fare is DKK19 (about €2.50).

Arrival: Turku, Finland - Turku (TKU)

Turku Airport features a second passenger terminal specifically designed for low-cost airlines. It is just outside the town of Turku. Location: Turku Airport is located 8 km outside of Turku. Transport: - Bus: Bus #1 provides service to and from the airport and Turku every 20 minutes. - Taxi: Phones are available so that travelers can order taxis from the airport's entrance hall for free. There is a fixed taxi fare between Turku and the airport. The journey by taxi is about 20 minutes. Service: In the airport, there's an information desk.
