Palace Road Hotel

The Palace Road Hotel, formerly the Castle Steps, boasts a location near the Prague Castle, 60 attractive rooms, and amenities that exceed the hotel's two-star classification. We think it's an especially good choice if you're planning a longer stay in Prague, as the Palace Road offers apartments equipped with all that you'll need for a comfortable stay.

The hotel

The Palace Road Hotel's double rooms (with private or shared bathroom) benefit from a unique selection of items including old sewing machines, desks, wardrobes, and mirrors. We especially liked the "Plum Tree," an extra-large two-room suite that boasts exposed beams, an imitation-antique armoire, and elegant pink chairs with a tassel trim. The "Lily," a double with shared bath, is less ornate, but it boasts a balcony overlooking a park in addition to a pretty, Van Gogh-style landscape on the wall.

Apartments are even more spacious: The "Pine" is nestled under the eaves and is accessed by a winding staircase. The "Linden" has two rooms and can accommodate a modest-sized group. One large apartment boasts a full-size kitchen, a sitting area, and a tiny terrace.

Bathrooms are pretty spacious, equipped with choice showerheads and massive bathtubs in most (ask ahead). One last notable perk: Most rooms are equipped with a washing machine and dryer.
