The Guesthouse at the Golden Tree—Dům "U Zlatého Stromu" in Czech—is another converted house tucked away in a sleepy, picture-perfect part of Hradčany, behind Prague Castle and The Loreto.
Though it's not a family-run pension, the Golden Tree has a homey feel. Rooms, of which there are only four, have wooden floors and come in all shapes and sizes. Furnishings vary similarly with a hodgepodge of styles in evidence. Bathrooms are shiny tiled affairs with new appliances. Some even have tubs.
Keep in mind these are simple lodgings. There are no telephones or televisions, and you have to pay in cash. But then there's that pleasant, old Prague neighborhood, swallowing you up with its charms. Front windows look out onto narrow Nový Svět, a cobblestone street, and a small grassy playground.

Home to Prague Castle, one of the city's most visited sights, Hradcany is a relatively quiet neighborhood. In addition to the castle, Hradcany's hills feature the stately Strahov Monastery, Loreto church and Schwarzenberg Palace. Easy tram access keeps the rest of Prague accessible.
