OK, we'll admit it: This is one of our favorite places to stay in Prague. Oozing with character (and flowers), the Hostel U Melounu is situated on a quiet street and surrounded by ornate buildings. It's also located next to a hospital and a health clinic. Guests are in good hands at the U Melounu.
The hostel has dozens of rooms surrounding a private courtyard that's just made for summer barbecues. It's true: you are sleeping two Metro stops from the center of town. But the staff is accommodating, helpful, and armed with handy fold-out maps of Prague to help you find your way back home.
Rooms are simple and clean with basic furnishings. Bedspreads have colorful stripes, sheets are included, and wardrobes are made of “McWood.” If you're not into the whole "share your bathroom with the rest of the hallway" thing but still want to save a little money, then you've lucked out: at the Melounu you have the option of sharing facilities with only one other room or renting out a room with a bathroom en suite. But the best part about this hostel is the layout. Rooms, divided into charming bungalows, are arranged around a garden, and brightly hued geraniums burst from the window boxes.
A continental breakfast is included the price. The kitchen is yours to use at any hour, and there are washing machines for dirty socks. This place has everything. Plus, ISIC holders can claim a discount. Our verdict: The U Melounu has a great vibe and charm to spare.
