The rates at the Hotel Atlantic, a stylish Nové Mesto three-star, can be a bit of a splurge. However, a recent renovation and convenient location—just next to the Staré Mesto-Nové Mesto border—make this 62-room hotel a good deal. As the Atlantic is a short walk from the Namesti Repuliky metro stop and close to numerous tram routes, guests have easy to access all of central Prague.
Rooms have a contemporary style with dark wood platform beds, sleek telephones, and funky glass lighting. Some rooms look more retro than others. Our only real complaint: the blah gray carpets. Bathrooms have peach-hued tiles, pretty shower fixtures, and new glass shower stalls.
Our favorite part of the Hotel Atlantic was the cool bar and lounge. Blue, white, and yellow umbrellas—reminiscent of all those umbrella-waving tour guides in Staromestské námestí—hang from the ceiling of the sleek bar. The adjacent lounge has a billiards table, large orange suede sofas, and funky plant terrariums.
Situated near the stunning art deco Municipal House, the area surrounding the Atlantic is an architectural hodgepodge spanning several centuries (for better and for worse). The Atlantic's building, constructed in the 17th century, began life as a roadside inn. It became the Hotel Atlantic in 1935 and more recently (2004) underwent a complete renovation. |
