A ten-minute walk from the National Museum, the Residence Select offers modern comforts and friendly service. Under new management since September 2009, the hotel was busy upgrading when we visited in late 2009. Job well done, new management! With features like free Wi-Fi and in-room kitchens, this place is convenient.

The spacious guestrooms have either bright red carpeting or attractive wooden floors. Furnishings are of the basic, wooden variety, and storage space (both closets and cabinets) is plentiful. Larger rooms offer couches, which sport dated floral covers. Nearly half of the rooms have air-conditioning, a useful feature in the warmer months (ask ahead). Rooms facing the bustling street can get some noise, especially in the summer. Bathrooms offer showers and little else.

Downstairs, breakfast is served in a sunny breakfast room. The hotel's clientele skews slightly older than other places we reviewed. For convenient access to Wenceslas Square and practical extra amenities, the Residence Select gets a thumbs-up in our book.
