The Charles hotel is set in a 19th-century building on a cobblestone street in the heart of Malá Strana. The Church of St. Joseph sits on the same block, and Malostranske Namesti is around the corner. The 31-room Charles is not exactly a cheapo, but tasteful lodgings down the hill from the castle don't come for much less.
Rooms are decorated in baroque style with antique furniture and a palette of regal colors. Rugs cover wood floors, and high ceilings feature exposed wood beams. There are pictures of old Prague on the walls, though you could just look out any of the windows to catch a glimpse of the old days. The Charles' rooms have private bathrooms with toilets, showers, and the occasional tub.
Breakfast is served at the restaurant next door until 10 AM. The jazz bar next door has live music and serves international cuisine.

About the Charles neighborhood
This hilly, romantic patch of land sits in the shadows of Prague Castle and just across the river from Staré Město. Malá Strana—which means "little" or "lesser quarter" in Czech—is filled with winding, steep cobblestone streets, ornate churches, and splendid vistas. Slightly less crowded than its neighbor across the Charles Bridge, this area still keeps bustling with visitors from dawn until dusk. The neighborhood's shady Kampa Park can provide relief from the crowds. Those with a penchant for late-night partying will want to head elsewhere, as things really quiet down after dark. However, those who want to rub shoulders with the neighborhood's many embassy workers should stay put. Not surprisingly, rooms in this coveted neighborhood tend to be pricey.
