The Amstel Botel, docked at a wharf on the outskirts of the city, allows you to see a different side of Amsterdam: a view of a former submarine protruding from the water, billowing smokestacks, and barges carrying their quarry to and from the great city. It's a little dystopian, and we like it.
The 176 rooms here are simple to a fault: clean beds over fraying red carpets and small, functional private bathrooms. Guests have access to the decks and great lounging areas complete with restaurant, bar, and pool table.
This is the place for an adventurous traveler. To get into the city, guests can hop onto one of the bikes rented out by the Botel and then get on the ferry.

About the Amstel Botel neighborhood
The Old Center is home to Amsterdam's main tourist attractions (with the notable exception of the most important museums). The Red Light District, Dam Square, the Royal Palace, Nieuwmarkt, and a seemingly endless supply of "coffeeshops" keep the area packed with eager—and often gawking—tourists. This is the city's touristy nerve-center. It's dirty, chaotic, crowded and, for some, enthralling.
