It's all about staying on a boat in the city of canals, and this barge is a biggie. The 20-year-old Amstel Botel, large enough to accommodate hundreds of passengers, is less than a five-minute walk from Centraal Station.
All four floors have royal blue carpeting and freshly painted walls. Along with perks such as free newspapers and free Internet access, the Amstel has an elevator and plenty of ramp access. In addition, there's an on-site restaurant and bar.
The 176 rooms are a bit rough around the edges, but all come with a telephone, television, safe, and alarm clock. Be sure to ask for a window, as interior rooms can get dark. And guess what? The windows are normal-size! No little portholes here. Irons and hair dryers are available at reception for a deposit.
Overall, the Botel is a unique experience that isn't for everybody. If you're up for it though, then come aboard!
