Nestled on a quiet corner between Place Ste-Catherine and the Grand Place, the Hotel Le Chantecler is a cozy 14-room hotel with reasonable rates and a noise-free atmosphere.
The Chantecler's lobby sports an attractive breakfast café with large windows overlooking the cobblestone street and the neighborhood's library next door. The common areas and hallways are very tidy, although a lack of much natural light makes them feel a bit cramped.
The hotel's rooms have a 70s feel (hello mirrored closet panels!) and could benefit from some up-to-date design. Furnishings are basic and dated with light green wallpaper and beds donning muted pastel comforters. The majority of the rooms face the street, offering pleasant neighborhood views. (Hint: Check out the stacks across the way!)
Put it this way: The Chantecler isn't going to win any design awards, but it's in a great spot and rooms are cheap.
