Located on the quiet side of Temple Bar, the Hotel George Frederic Handel is both mish and mash. The lobby's peach walls and the fake lily-filled urns by the elevators appeal to a special design sensibility. If kitsch is your favorite art form, you may discover that you heart the Handel.
The 40 rooms are all color-coordinated in a palette apparently dreamt up in the rust-friendly late 1980s. Furniture is unremarkable but serviceable. All rooms have private bathrooms, and several have modest views of Fishamble Street below. The George Frederic Handel is just a few minutes from Christ Church Cathedral and adjacent to a strip of hip cafes and shops.
The reception opens to Karma Bar, a funky space that carries on the general kitsch theme on display elsewhere. George Frederic Handel's clientele is divided between families and groups of partying lads, a schizophrenic break that matches the hotel's cut-and-paste aesthetic.
