Hotel Mundial

The massive four-star Hotel Mundial is a 350-room hotel and occupies about three-fourths of a city block. It sports a downright handy location along with panoramic views of the city from its upper floors. You can walk almost anywhere, and the ferry that crosses the Tejo River is only 500 meters away. Plus, with so many rooms to fill, rates can get low.

Rooms, which come in standard or superior classes, have modern furnishings and bathrooms. Décor is somewhat predictable hotel fare, though still attractive, clean and very comfortable. All rooms are equipped with satellite TV, air conditioning and a minibar. Thirty rooms have balconies with views of Lisbon's hills or the river (request ahead).

Though the entrance could use a renovation to take it from the ‘80s into the 21st century, things get much more attractive as you head farther into the well-appointed bar and lounge. And vistas from the rooftop deck (a great place to have a cocktail) and the restaurant are fantastic. (The restaurant itself, however, is on the expensive side.)

Breakfast is sometimes included in the room rate (check when booking). Wi-Fi is available throughout the property for a charge.
