Don't be put off by the bland ground-floor lobby of the two-star Hostal Nuria. The reliable rooms and the young, hip clientele matter more than any old wood paneling issues.
Upstairs, in the hostal's 50 rooms, the decor becomes more inviting. At least, the dark wood furniture is attractive. Rooms come in many sizes, from singles on up to quads. All rooms have showers, though you will have to pay more for a complete, private bathroom.
The Nuria's location, on the bustling Calle de Funecarral, is fantastico: it's minutes from Gran Via and surrounded by the chic stores and cafes that make Chueca the 'it' neighborhood.

About the Hostal Nuria neighborhood
This up-and-coming area to the north of the Gran Via includes the main streets Hortaleza, Infantas, Barquillo and San Lucas and is considered the epicenter of gay Madrid. The center of life in this area is the buzzing Plaza de Chueca, packed with people on any spring or summer night, and close to Madrid's trendiest new restaurants, bars and dance clubs.
