The Albergo della Lunetta provides two-star comfort with zero perks about a block from Campo de' Fiori. If the same rooms were in a less desirable neighborhood (say,
North of Termini), we wouldn't include the hotel in our list. But because this rather humorless albergo is only a few steps from one of the most beloved squares in Rome, we think it's worth the price.
The Lunetta offers bedrooms with or without private facilities, which is quickly becoming a rarity in central Rome. Red-tiled floors have matching red bedspreads with simple wooden headboards and nightstands. And that's about it (read: no TV). Baths are clean but rather dimly lit.
Of the 35 rooms in the Lunetta, 10 are equipped with air-conditioning. All rooms with private facilities have bathtubs. Rooms face either the charming (and relatively calm) Piazza del Paradiso or open to the Lunetta's flower-filled courtyard.(Rooms facing the courtyard are a better bet for a good night's sleep).
