The Hotel Mimosa is a simple, no-frills kind of place, but given its reasonable rates and hard-to-beat location (in a historic palazzo one block south of the Pantheon and minutes from Piazza Navona), this one-star pension is a solid pick in central Rome. It doesn't try to be anything other than what it is: clean, cheap and convenient.
Quick read...
Pros: Fabulous location. Great value. Clean.
Cons: Basic rooms without many amenities (no TV). Cash only. Cutthroat cancellation policy.
Hotel
The Hotel Mimosa’s 11 rooms line one long corridor that shoots off the fluorescent-lit lobby. They vary in size and shape but all are clean and modern, with freshly painted or wallpapered walls and Ikea-style furnishings. Framed artwork rounds out the scene.
Beyond a few aesthetic touches, rooms are pretty basic—you won’t find a TV or phone here, but air conditioning is available. The bathrooms, all private, are simple, modern and clean.
Hotel
A basic breakfast, included in the room rate, is served in a light, airy room with parquet floors, trendy cafeteria-style furnishings and a cheery red-and-pink palette. The Mimosa’s reception area is still fairly retro, and is dominated by a strikingly large reproduction of Sandro Boticelli’s “Birth of Venus” (Nascita di Venere).
On our recent 2012 visit, we were pleased to discover that the Hotel Mimosa has added an elevator. There is also a safe at reception. Wi-Fi is free throughout and there is an Internet station available for a fee. The pension is entirely non-smoking.
Note: Before you book, read the small print about Mimosa’s cancellation policy. If you cut your stay short, you may end up footing the bill for the remaining nights. Also keep in mind that the Hotel Mimosa does not accept credit cards.
Location
The Hotel Mimosa is well placed for exploring the city. It’s literally around the corner from the Pantheon and near many other major historical sites. It’s also well connected by many transportation options.
If you’re arriving to the hotel by public transport, one way to get there is to take the 64 bus and get off at Largo di Torre Argentina. (There is a large book shop called Feltrinelli next to the busstop.) From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk up via di Torre Argentina, then left at via di Santa Chiara. The hotel is not particularly well indicated by street signage, but you shouldn’t have a problem finding it.
Guest reviews in brief
With few exceptions, guests are fond of the Hotel Mimosa. They acknowledge that it is simple, but find it to be a solid value, with a fantastic location, clean rooms and friendly staff.
The few complaints we’ve come across deal mostly with the usual street noise and the fact that the hotel does not accept credit cards. Some guests also feel that the breakfast is quite basic, but most add that this is not an issue.

About the Hotel Mimosa neighborhood
The Pantheon and Piazza Navona are located to the west of the train station and southwest of Piazza di Spagna. The area is perhaps the most visited in all of Rome. Everybody flocks to Piazza Navona for its three Bernini fountains and fancy bars and restaurants. This neighborhood features innumerable old churches and pockets of great budget value, both in terms of hotels and restaurants.
