The one-star Hotel Mimosa doesn't try to be anything other than what it is: clean, cheap and convenient. It also boasts a superb location and true Italian hospitality.
Pros: Fabulous location. Great value. Clean. Oh-so-friendly service.
Cons: Basic rooms without many amenities (no TV). Tiny showers.
The Hotel Mimosa is a simple, no-frills kind of place, but given its reasonable rates and hard-to-beat location (in a historic palazzo one block south of the Pantheon and minutes from Piazza Navona), this one-star pension is a solid pick in central Rome.
The 11 guest rooms line one long corridor that shoots off of the Mimosa's fluorescent-lit lobby. Rooms vary in size and shape but all are clean and modern, with freshly painted or wallpapered walls and Ikea-style furnishings. Framed artwork rounds out the scene.
Beyond a few aesthetic touches, rooms are pretty simple—you won’t find a TV or phone here, but air conditioning is available.
The bathrooms, all private, are simple, modern and clean. They are of an acceptable size, but the showers are notable small.
The Hotel Mimosa changed management in the spring of 2013, and the new owners are eager and friendly, going out of their way to make guests feel comfortable. Some changes may be in the works, but for now the Mimosa is as simple and cheap as we've always known it to be.
The Mimosa's fairly retro reception area is dominated by a strikingly large reproduction of Sandro Boticelli’s “Birth of Venus” (Nascita di Venere). There is also a safe at reception. A basic breakfast, included in the room rate, is served in a light, airy room with parquet floors, trendy cafeteria-style furnishings and a cheery red-and-pink palette.
Wi-Fi is free throughout, and there is an Internet station available for a fee. The pension is entirely non-smoking.
The Hotel Mimosa is well placed for exploring Rome. It’s literally around the corner from the Pantheon and within walking distance of many other major historical sites. It’s also well connected by a variety of transportation options.
If you’re arriving to the hotel by public transport, one way to get there is to take the 64 bus and get off at Largo di Torre Argentina. (There is a large book shop called Feltrinelli next to the bus stop.) From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk up via di Torre Argentina, then left at via di Santa Chiara. The hotel is not particularly well indicated by street signage, but you shouldn’t have a problem finding it.

About the Hotel Mimosa neighborhood
The Pantheon and Piazza Navona are located to the west of the train station and southwest of Piazza di Spagna. The area is perhaps the most visited in all of Rome. Everybody flocks to Piazza Navona for its three Bernini fountains and fancy bars and restaurants. This neighborhood features innumerable old churches and pockets of great budget value, both in terms of hotels and restaurants.
