Pension Cordoba is what you'd get if you crossed a three-story Andalusian palace in Seville with an American Econo Lodge. It's not a four-star hotel and doesn't waste time on frills. However, it does ensure the clean basics and is located in the center of the city's fun.
Plus, the Cordoba is one of the few safe establishments in town that don't double prices during Semana Santa or Feria. The catch is you've got to be home by 3 a.m., just like a Spanish Cinderella. Reception doesn't open again until 7 a.m. The pension (more like a hostal by our standards) is bright white. Streams of light pour into the interior patio from the large skylight. Twin daughters, Maria and Ana—who are exactly identical and equally sweet—assured us that the Cordoba gets a fresh paint job every year.
Well, it shows. The place feels airy with overhanging ferns, blonde woods, and Andalusian tile. Besides the twins, our favorite housekeeper was Otto, the cute white terrier that guards the door at night. There's matching furniture in all the rooms with either en suite or outside private bathrooms. The daughters tell us interior rooms are usually preferred because street noise doesn't waft in during the night.
