The one-star Hotel Acacia, situated in a striking triangular building on the banks of a pleasant Jordaan canal, is a great place to escape the bustle of the city.

The Acacia’s 16 rooms are simple but homey, outfitted in basic carpets, pink walls, and photos of Amsterdam. Rooms are furnished with only the necessities: a small work desk and a television. The views, however, are the winning feature. Rooms located in the front of the sharply-angled building are especially inviting, as they’re flooded with light and provide quaint street and canal views.

All rooms (and two studio apartments) offer private bathrooms, which, like the bedrooms, are bare-bones, slightly dated, but functional.

We recommended the Hotel Acacia’s charming houseboat rooms for years. These, unfortunately, are no longer available.

Note: Like many Amsterdam hotels, the Acacia has steep stairs and is not equipped with an elevator. Breakfast included.
