Hotel The Crown features quiet, affordable rooms situated above a pub in the vivacious atmosphere of the Red Light district.
The family-run 1-star offers no frills in the floors above its pool table-equipped bar. The 17 rooms are as basic as those in a good hostel: beds lined up tightly against each other, clinical white walls adorned with abstract art prints, shared bathrooms that are cramped but clean. Two of the three floors have internet access (ask ahead).
If you're coming to Amsterdam to party, this is a great location. You’ll never need to venture far beyond the Crown and its corner in this bustling hood. However, if your idea of Amsterdam conjures up more Rembrandts than Red Lights, we recommend you move on.

Amsterdam's (in)famous Red Light District lies within the "Old Center," a short walk from Centraal Station. True, the area is home to those notorious red windows, live sex shows and marijuana-peddling coffee shops. But well-policed, yet happy-go-lucky 'hood is hardly a dangerous free-for all—and it's home to some cool shops and many affordable hotels.
