Located next to the Cirque d’Hiver and the famous Clown Bar by the soon-to-be renovated Place de la République, the Hôtel Beaumarchais is a basic hotel that keeps things exciting with some jazzy art and eye-popping hues.
Quick Read:
Pros: Colorful rooms and quirky décor. Location near Republique and Marais.
Cons: Room condition varies. Décor a bit tired in some rooms. Not always a great value.
Rooms
The Hotel Beaumarchais’ 31 rooms reminded us of the good old kindergarten days with their bright art and mod, curvaceous furniture in shiny red, fuchsia, green and yellow. They have triple-paned windows for soundproofing and are equipped with air conditioning, a telephone and TV.
While its vibrant decor can sometimes come off more like a youth hostel than a hotel at times, we still recommend it for those looking to recede a bit from the main tourist neighborhoods.
Bathrooms are clean and whimsically tiled in mosaics. Bathtubs are available (request ahead). The hairdryers could use a push into the 21st century.
Hotel facilities
While simple and without frills, the Hotel Beaumarchais is imaginatively decorated and painted upstairs and downstairs in vibrant blues, reds, yellows and greens. Edgy, conversation-starting exhibitions hang in the breakfast room and lounge.
The public space offers free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is offered for €10.
Location
The Hotel Beaumarchais is situated just to the east of most major attractions and a short Metro ride or walk from others like the Bastille and the Père Lachaise Cemetery.
Nestled between the Marais and the bustling République square, there is no shortage of nightlife and eateries, including hispster-filled bars dotting rue Oberkampf when you turn left out of the hotel. As of summer 2012, heavy renovations around the Place de la République mean some unsightly construction, but the area is as lively as ever.
User reviews in brief
Recent guests have been rather split about the Beaumarchais. At least everyone agrees that its location, near the Place de la République, is convenient for catching the Metro. Some guests had perfectly fine experiences, and couldn’t understand what others were grousing about.
However, many recent guests complain about the rather tired state of the rooms, and bathrooms that were in need of a complete overhaul. Alas, the bright and quirky décor seems to be a little worse for wear in some rooms.

About the Hotel Beaumarchais neighborhood
Situated at the intersection of the 3rd, 10th and 11th arrondissements, Place de la République is a bustling, sometimes manic, place. Cars whiz around the giant arched monument and tourists arrive (or transfer) from all directions. The area doesn't go out of its way to charm and certain parts can be sketchy at night. But the sheer number of low-priced hotels and easy train and pedestrian access make it an attractive and affordable option.
