Hotel and Hostel des Artistes

The friendly, family-run Hotel and Hostel Des Artistes is a hybrid choice for budget travelers who cannot make up their minds. Whether you choose one of the three-star hotel rooms or a hostel bunk, you’ll benefit from the same friendly service and central location (a short walk from Termini Station and a 20-minute walk to the historic center).

The 45 private rooms at Hotel des Artistes are draped in rich red and blue fabrics. While the gilt-framed paintings are not original works, they still lend an elegant feel. All “hotel” rooms feature a private bathroom, television, phone, mini-fridge and air conditioning.

The Hostel des Artistes takes up one floor of the hotel. It has a young vibe, with a handful of private rooms that are mostly indistinguishable from the hotel rooms—except that they share a bathroom. Dorm rooms are decorated in a simpler style, with plain white walls and six or 10 bunk beds.

At Hostel des Artistes, there is one shared bathroom to every three private rooms, plus a communal shower room with plenty of stalls to be shared among the dorm guests. All bathrooms are clean and shiny. Towels are provided for guests in the privates, and dorm guests can rent a towel for €1.

Both hotel and hostel offer a bar and TV-equipped common area, in addition to a lovely roof terrace. The hostel also offers lockers, vending machines, computer stations and a fridge.

Breakfast is included in the room rate at the Hotel des Artistes, but it costs a pricey €12 at the hostel. However, Hostel des Artistes partners with local eateries: Guests can enjoy an Italian breakfast (sweet croissant and coffee, cappuccino or latte) for only €1.50 at the Payo Café across the street, and two nearby restaurants offer 10 percent off lunch and dinner.

Wi-Fi is available for an additional charge throughout the hotel and hostel. Note that you must be between the ages of 18 and 35 to sleep in the dorms.
