The Hotel Mari 2 is an acceptable two-star option north of the train station, located three blocks from the Piazza dell' Indipendenza.
Rooms have heavy doors, high ceilings, wooden floors and monster headboards that include enough cabinets and bookshelves to store all your travel goods. Some rooms come with the extra luxuries of air-conditioning, a minibar and a Jacuzzi (ask ahead). Bathrooms have basic shower stalls and toiletries.
Breakfast will cost you €5 extra.
The Mari is just next to the more loveable Hotel Pensione Papa Germano on the relatively quiet though unremarkable Via Calatafimi.

About the Hotel Mari 2 neighborhood
The largely residential area north of Stazione Centrale Termini is both convenient and affordable. Trains heading to Fumincino airport and across Italy depart from this massive station, the front of which is also a major bus and metro stop. Although not the most picturesque neighborhood in central Rome, lots of hotel competition can often mean good rates. The area is always crowded and sometimes a little seedy.
