Hostal Lis is an economic choice for travelers looking for narrow streets, historic houses, enchantment, and personality. The two guys working the reception desk raised an eyebrow when we told them we loved this place. Admittedly, it's a bit run down. But the incredible ceramic tile makes up for any of its shortcomings. (The owner was in the tile business, and the sheer quantity made us dizzy.)
Flowers, out-of-control ferns, and a picture of the Virgin Mary decorate the 18th-century house like they must have in the old days. It doesn't get more typically Sevillian than this. Of course, now there's a solarium on the roof and free Internet access.
Room fixtures and light switches are outdated (and covered with duct tape), the furniture matches, rooms are clean, and there are windows overlooking the interior patio.
At the time of our visit, they were working on installing an air-conditioner. This is an absolute must-have during Seville's hot summer months, so confirm the job is finished before booking.
