The Hotel Zaida is getting a makeover. Like so many other hotels in Seville, it is under construction, but we loved this Sevillana house for its Mudejar décor, arches, and tiles. Most of all, we were struck by how clean it was. During our visit, cleaning ladies were scrubbing the bottoms of wicker chairs during a rigorous spring-cleaning.
The Zaida is located south of the Cathedral on a quiet street, about a 10-minute walk to the Cathedral. In just a few months, the hotel expects to have two stars and is planning on expanding amenities. Thus, we'd wait until the renovations are finished to book a room.
Rooms are minimally decorated with modern furniture and a writing desk. The tile floors are not the most attractive, but they do keep rooms cool during scorching Seville summers. For the sloths among us, there's a wired on-and-off switch near the bed for the television. Bathrooms are modern with half tubs.
Ask for a renovated room with a balcony, and you'll be pleased as Sangria punch. Rooms like No. 127 have a large glass-encased balcony—request ahead. A special thanks goes to the English-speaking desk clerk, who helped us with an Aspirin after a long night out.
