When we met the Pension Alcazar, it was love at first sight. Without hesitation, we ditched our three-star hotel and moved to this one-star pension. The Alcazar gave us everything we wanted in an accommodation: a beautiful morning in bed with terrace doors swung open and a lovely cross breeze.
We think there's no other room in the city that's better for the price. An exterior staircase—more like a stepladder—transplants us to another world hanging above a quiet cul-de-sac, sans the hustle and bustle of the Cathedral or Alcazar just a few meters away.
The seven other rooms, including two triples, aren't bad either. Most the guests who stay there are in town to learn Flamenco. The Romanian family who own and run the pension and never seem to sleep, they take great care to see that their guests have adequate supplies of towels and toilet paper. There's no heat in the top apartment, but the space heater was sufficient during the cool night. Bathrooms have showers, and only a few are not en suite.
