The three-star Rembrandt Classic Hotel offers 111 rooms across several townhouses that were joined together, restored and converted into a hotel. As the hotel faces a canal in both the front and back, about 30 percent of the rooms boast views of the water.
Overall, the Rembrandt Classic’s guest rooms aren't exactly screaming with character, but we did notice—as of our last visit—that they've added new carpets and bedspreads. Our room had a very high, wood-beamed ceiling, writing area, comfy bed, large television, telephone, trouser press and dresser. And the spacious private bathroom had both a tub and a shower.
When reserving, request a canal view. They do grant them when possible, although rooms on the interior courtyard are perfectly fine.
Spanning the land between the Herrengracht and Singel canals, just five minutes from Dam Square, this area is always bustling with activity—although, from the Rembrandt Classic’s peaceful, nearly soundproof rooms, you'd never notice it.
Breakfast is sometimes included in the room rate (check when booking). Wi-Fi is available for an additional fee.

About the Rembrandt Classic Hotel neighborhood
Grachtengordel West is an expansive area in the center of town, near the Dam and the Old Center. It's also home to gorgeous 17th-century canal houses, Westermarkt, the Homomonument, the Westerkerk (Amsterdam's grandest church and the final resting place of Rembrandt) and Anne Frank's House.
