One of Bruges’ well-known hostels, the Lybeer Travellers’ Hostel offers the barest of basic rooms at decent rates. Located just west of central Bruges (next door to the Groenighe Hotel), the Lybeer has a welcoming vibe.
Rooms look like they just crept out of the 1970s. A single we checked out was a bit tattered, with old green wallpaper, a couple random stickers on the walls and a sink. In other words, it looked like a student had been living in it – for the past three decades.
Lybeer’s is located in a 19th-century family residence, which lends the hostel some warm old-fashioned touches. The hostel provides a guest kitchen and dining room for its guests, along with a TV room and bar area, where everyone hangs out and pulls out their laptops.
Younger guests will especially appreciate the fun activities the Lybeer plans nightly. For example, the week we visited kicked things off with Monday’s “Adam Sandler Movie Night” and culminated in Saturday’s “Stuff Yourself with Pasta” fest (with a beer pong championship along the way!). In other words, it’s a collegiate dream.
