The City Hotel Mátyás is splurgeworthy. Not only does it feature amenities galore in a central location, but the famous traditional Hungarian Matthias Cellar restaurant is right on the premises.
City Hotel Mátyás is one of 13 Mellow Mood hotels in Budapest. Its 85 rooms are located on five floors inside a gorgeous neoclassical building sitting on the south side of Március 15 tér. The hotel shares the same tér with Inner City Parish church, a tourist attraction for centuries.
Room furnishings aren't exactly groundbreaking. Light, Danish design knockoffs furnish the hotel's single, double, and triple rooms. Window drapes and bed covers share a teal and beige geometric pattern. Triangular tables of pale, faux wood are offset with matching chairs that would be more at home in a dentist office waiting room than in a hotel.
So what's splurgeworthy besides the central location? Amenities include a minibar and satellite television, and a hearty breakfast, which is covered by the nightly rate. The morning buffet is served inside the hotel's picturesque cellar restaurant from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Open to the public later in the evening, the restaurant also offers local Hungarian cuisine served alongside live Gypsy music. Its stained-glass windows and vaulted ceilings are quite frankly exquisite.
