Conveniently located across the street from the Parque Eduardo Metro stop, the Residencial Horizonte is the stuff of cheapo dreams: 52 tasteful rooms with low rates.
The Horizonte occupies six of eight floors in a pink concrete apartment building one block west of the park. The gray-tiled basement level reception desk is no-nonsense and the darkish stairways may at first put you off. But hang in there!
In the rooms, furnishings, prints and fabrics are attractive, if not terribly interesting. Air conditioning and satellite TV are available in all rooms. Baths are spotless, and some are equipped with bathtubs.
Note that windows are not soundproof, and Avenida Antonio Augusto can be busy. (Light sleepers should request a room off the street.) Be sure to inquire ahead for a room with a view.
Breakfast is included in the room rate.

About the Residencial Horizonte neighborhood
Located at the top of Avenida da Liberdade, the Praça Marquês de Pombal is one of the city's major traffic thoroughfares. This neighborhood offers a glimpse into the everyday lives of most Lisbon residents. Close by are the Museu Calouste Gulbekian and the leafy Parque Eduardo VII. It's a short subway ride to the center of old Lisbon.
