Conveniently located across the street from the Parque Eduardo metro stop, the Residencial Horizonte is dusting itself off after an extensive round of renovations. The result is the stuff of Cheapo dreams: 64 tasteful, modern rooms and low prices.
The residencial occupies six of eight floors in a pink concrete apartment building one block west of the park. The gray-tiled basement level reception desk is no-nonsense and the darkish stairways may at first put you off. But, hang on there!
Rooms are so fresh we could still smell the new carpets when we visited in May 2006. Furnishings, prints, fabrics ... all new, if not terribly interesting. Baths are spotless, freshly tiled, and appointed with new fixtures. Some baths are equipped with bathtubs.
All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, although windows are not soundproofed, and Avenida Antonio Augusto can be busy. (Light sleepers should request a room off the street.)
