This attractive white neoclassical house has 53 rooms at what-a-deal prices about a 10-minute walk from Victoria Station. Though Georgian in name and in outward appearance, the Georgian House Hotel's lobby and reception are really the only areas decorated in period style. Otherwise, furnishings and textiles are contemporary hotel fare.
Along with Standard and Deluxe, the Georgian also offers a few basic rooms with shared facilities. Basic rooms are the best deal, though these rooms are only for those who don't mind stairs: they're on the top floor and there's no elevator and no porter.
Decor in the Standard and Basic rooms is the same: simple, though pleasant and very clean. Furniture is basic blond wood with headboards attached to the wall. Tiny, framed pictures and patterned wallpaper borders jazz things up a little. And every now and again, a trace of the old Georgian style pops up to remind you of the building's more illustrious past: fireplaces, crown molding, etc. Our only critique: the bathrooms, both shared and en suite, could use a little modernization.

About the Georgian House Hotel neighborhood
Though not an aesthetically pleasing neighborhood, the area near Victoria Station, which comprises parts of Westminster and Pimlico, is undeniably convenient. Aside from its proximity to Victoria, Buckingham Palace and the lovely grounds of St. James's Park are just up the street and Westminster Abbey is but a short Tube ride away. Be warned: there are countless hotels lining Belgrave Road and its peripheries lacking in the charm department. These vary wildly in size, quality, and nightly rate. This is one neighborhood where it more than pays to do your homework. Those staying in London for more than a few days might want to look elsewhere, for charm if nothing else.
